MAXWELL TACKLES THE STREETS OF PAU

Thomas Maxwell completed a difficult weekend of racing on one of the most challenging street circuits in the world.

Driving through the streets of Pau in Round 3 of the Formula Renault Eurocup, the young Australian's challenging qualifying put him on the back foot for the weekend.

Maxwell put in a strong race pace but wasn't able to work his way into the points.  He gained three positions early in the race, ultimately finishing the race in thirteenth position in Race 2.  This follows finishing in fifteenth position at the end of Race 1.

The Territorian encountered his first street track, bringing home a clean car on the technically difficult Pau Street circuit.  Pau is also one of the oldest circuits in the world and the historic Pau Grand Prix event is renowned for attracting large crowds.  Maxwell demonstrated good focus on the narrow and winding track. With good racing conditions, after drizzly conditions for qualifying, Maxwell made the most of them and showcased his trademark driving skills.

Maxwell said “I really enjoyed racing in Pau and loved every lap, but unfortunately didn't put it together for qualifying.  The track was very challenging but it was an awesome experience and I've come away after my first street track with confidence.”

Providing a competitive environment for up and coming drivers such as Maxwell, the Formula Renault Eurocup is next weekend off to support of the prestigious Formula 1 Championship at - The Monaco Grand Prix.  Monaco is another urban circuit and Tom is looking to put in a really strong performance for this event, building on what he has learnt and hopes to improve on results.

Next race : Monaco Grand Prix : 26th to 28th May, 2017.
