TERRITORY DRIVER HITS THE GLAMOUR TRACK AT MONACO

Territorian and Formula Renault Eurocup driver Thomas Maxwell hit the glamorous Monaco Grand Prix circuit for round 4 of the championship.  In its 75th year, the Monaco Grand Prix is one of the biggest races in motorsport. An urban track it provides for difficult racing in the spectacular environment of one of Europe’s glamour playgrounds.

After not an ideal qualifying Maxwell was 9th in his group and had to battle from 19th on the grid in both races. Finishing 25th in race 1 and 14th in race 2 after being involved in carnage in both races.  Not the desired results he was chasing but enjoying the experience and coming away with new learnings from the weekend to implement for future races.

Maxwell said “It was an amazing opportunity to be able to race around such an iconic track. The atmosphere at the event was amazing and the stands were packed. To be able to race alongside Formula 1 was great, it’s just a shame we didn’t get to showcase what we are capable of. We’ve got to work on getting the car a bit better on new tyres because it’s effecting our qualifying.”

Maxwell’s next race will see him returning to Monza in Italy to gain valuable track time and experience where he will compete in the first of two rounds of the Formula Renault Northern European Championship this year. The next round of the Formula Renault Eurocup Championship heads to Budapest, Hungary on 30tJune where Maxwell will be looking to score some solid points.

“I’m excited to be heading back to a purpose build track, I really loved the experience of racing on these two street tracks and hopefully it’ll benefit heading back to a normal circuit.”

Currently sitting equal 12th in the standings he is one of the top rookie performers and will be looking to really attack Round 5 at Budapest to move him up the order.
